Broker Hired by Idaho State
Pocatello, IDAHO -- Wendy Broker has been named assistant sports information director at Idaho State University, Director of Athletics Dr. Howard Gauthier has announced. She replaces Reed Hollinshead, who resigned on September 6.
Broker went to Idaho State University after spending the past year at the University of Washington, where she handled all facets of media relations for Husky track and field and cross country. At Washington, Broker helped to publicize several All-Americans in the track and field program, including a men's outdoor team that finished 33rd in the nation last year.
Washington's women's cross country teams finished fifth in the West Regionals held at Fresno State, and 23rd nationally, while the men's team finished eighth in the region.
While at Washington, Broker, 23, also helped with the coordination of media activities regarding All-American Husky quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo.
"I am very excited to have Wendy join the Idaho State University sports information staff," said Sports Information Director Frank Mercogliano. "Wendy's work under Jim Daves at the University of Washington was just fantastic, from her media guides, to her releases, to her abilities to gain a tremendous amount of media coverage for her sports. All of Wendy's references spoke highly of her work ethic, and of the quality of her work."
Broker, a native of Raytown, Missouri, graduated from the Northwest Missouri State with a double major of broadcasting and journalism in just three and a half years. While at NMS, spent nearly two years in the sports information office under Andy Seely, handling track and field and cross country SID duties, while also serving on the game-day events staff for soccer, football, and basketball.
She also was the sports editor for the University's student newspaper, and she has also served as an intern at KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri and at WDAF in Kansas City.
Broker will take a short leave of absence in February to serve on the press operations staff at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"While we will miss Wendy for that short time that she is gone in Salt Lake, the experience she will get will be something that will benefit not only her, but Idaho State University as well. That selection for her is quite an honor, and I think it shows the caliber of what she can do
