O'Brien Promoted at Merrimack
Tom O'Brien has been promoted assistant athletic director for sports information, Merrimack College interim athletic director Chris Serino announced. O'Brien has
served as the school's sports information director since September of 2000.
In his third year at Merrimack, O'Brien directs the media relations efforts
for the 16-sport program. He is responsible for the production and editing of all athletic department publications including media guides, brochures
and game day programs and he maintains the athletics section of the
Merrimack College web site. In addition, he represents the athletic
department on several committees both on campus and with outside
organizations.
O'Brien came to Merrimack from Saint Leo University in Florida where he had
numerous responsibilities over his five years there. Most recently, he
filled the dual role of assistant athletic director and sports information
director. His duties included assisting in the administration and overseeing
all aspects of sports information for the 13-sport, Division II athletic
program. O'Brien also directed the marketing efforts of the athletic
department, launching and developing a successful corporate sponsor program.
O'Brien was chair of the Saint Leo University Hall of Fame committee and was
responsible for the annual induction ceremonies, including serving as the
Master of Ceremonies.
A 1995 graduate of Saint Leo University, he was hired as assistant sports
information director by his alma mater the summer following graduation. As a
student, O'Brien completed internships with GTE Classic Senior PGA Tour
event, the World Beach Volleyball Championships organized by International
Management Group, and the Sunshine State Conference.
