Minutes of CoSIDA Board Meeting
1. President Alan Cannon (Texas A&M) said he had not heard back from Katie
Hyde at Millsport about Verizon Academic All-America Hall of Fame Banquet at
CoSIDA Convention. First Vice-President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt) said the
hotel confirmed that the banquet room was available for the banquet on
Saturday night. This created consideration of not having the Past President’s
Dinner on Saturday and instead, incorporating recognition of the Past
President’s into the Hall of Fame dinner.
2. Cannon asked Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) about a possible
successor for Wally Johnson as the coordinator of CoSIDA exhibits. Dave said
he had spoken with someone that is very interested in the position but that he
was going to do further follow-up before reporting back to the Board.
3. There was discussion about a column written by Steve Richardson and how to
address it as an organization. Cannon said he had attempted to call Richardson
and had left a message but had not heard back from him. The Board felt that
Cannon should wait to speak to Richardson on behalf of the organization and
report back to see if further response was necessary.
4. College Division Representative Larry Happell (Central) reported that he
would be taking a year-long sabattical at the University of Tennessee, but
that he wished to continue in his position on the Board. After discussion, the
Board felt that Happell could continue to be an effective board member, even
in his temporary capacity.
5. Boclair reported that she was continuing to work on the banquet schedule
with the hotel for meeting room space, etc., and everything was moving along
smoothly.
6. Wohlhueter said memberships were rolling in. He said that we were still
awaiting payment fromthree sponors from 2002 (Big XII, Sporting News and
Sears).
7. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) reported that the December Digest was
about ready to go to the printer. He also said that requests for Directories
were steadily coming in.
8. Maxey Parrish (Waco, Texas), Director of On-Line Services, said that the
CoSIDA website migration was in the final stages but that he had not been
given a definite completion date.
9. Ed Carpenter (Boston University), Director of Marketing, said he had met or
had discussions with two possible new sponsors. There was also discussion
about Digest advertising prices. Wohlhueter said prices should be $300 for a
full page, $200 for a half and $125 for a quarter page.
10. There was discussion about the possibility of raising CoSIDA dues for
2003-04 but that discussion was tabled until the next CoSIDA full Board call
in December.
11. There was no new business and the call was adjourned.
