Dec. 4 CoSIDA Board Conference Call
I. President Alan Cannon (Texas A&M) was not present on the call and it
was coordinated by First Vice-President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt). She
said she had talked to Kevin Ruple and the Cleveland Convention
schedule was coming together. She said she was excited about the
possible schedule and the focus on issues like health and respect for the
profession.
II. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the December Digest
mailing had gone to over 1,500 members. He also reported that the
CoSIDA letterhead was completed and had been shipped by Multi-Ad. He
said CoSIDA had also built up over $3,000 in credit at Multi-Ad for future
publications.
III. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston University) gave the Board
an update on two potential sponsors. He also said Sears had processed
its sponsorship check for 2002 and that it was on its way.
IV. There was discussion about Info. Sports and a situation where press
credentials, media guides, etc., were being auctioned off on E-Bay.
College Division Representative Tom DiCamillo (West Chester) said the
company was just a few minutes from him and that he was going to go by
and see what their story was and update the board.
V. Past President Pete Moore (Syracuse) said he had sent a letter from
CoSIDA to Steve Richardson regarding his column and he was circulating
that response to the Board.
VI. There was a discussion about the Rainy Day Fund and a proposal to
provide a donation to former SID Robin Hartman, who is battling cancer.
There was a motion and second to donate $1,000 to the Robin Hartman
Fund on behalf of CoSIDA. It was passed unanimously. Past President
Fred Stabley, Jr. (Central Michigan) also asked that a note about the Fund
be run in the CoSIDA Digest in case other members wish to donate.
VII. Under old business, there was a discussion about possibly
increasing CoSIDA dues for the first time since 1993. There was a
motion and second made to increase annual Active dues to $50,
Associate dues to $60 and leave student dues at $25 - for the 2003-04
year, beginning at the Cleveland Convention. It was passed unanimously.
It was suggested that a future CoSIDA Digest column detail the rationale
behind the increase, including information compiled by Wohlhueter
showing that the annual cost of providing the Digest and Directory to each
member exceeded the amount of annual dues received per member.
VIII. There was discussion about a successor for Wally Johnson as
coordinator of convention exhibits. That information of prospects will be
passed on to President Alan Cannon.
The call was adjourned.
