Board Meeting
October 2, 2003
(Full Board Call)
President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt) checked the role.
I. Boclair asked Board members to provide her personal contact
information and information on their local newspaper's beat writer to
have on hand when needed.
II. There was discussion of poeeible Academic All-America team logos
that have been presented by Millsport.
III. There was discussion of the Board's previous vote to charge for
job listings on the CoSIDA website. Boclair had emailed the Board
members letters from CoSIDA members received in response to that
decision and the letters were discussed.
IV. Boclair suggested posting an agenda of the upcoming Board calls on
the CoSIDA website.
V. Paul Allan of Minnesota State-Mankato, the CoSIDA Convention
Exhibits Coordinator, discussed plans for Calgary. He said he felt
very good about the setup in Calgary- with plenty of room and a good
location for exhibits. He also had met with a customs broker company
that works with the hotel. They answered several questions for him and
said they would work with anyone who needed their assistance. Allan
also said that the number of exhibitors had almost doubled from the
Convention in Rochester to the 2003 Convention in Cleveland. He said he
was not sure yet about any numbers for Calgary.
VI. First Vice President Rod Commons (Washington State), Second Vice
President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) and Third Vice President Doug Dull
(Maryland) all gave brief committee updates on the Workshop Program,
Social and Special Awards, respectively.
VII. Director On-Line Services Maxey Parrish (Waco, Texas) said all the
forms for the Academic All-America and Publications Contests were
posted.
VIII. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said memberships
continued to come in - both renewals and new members.
IX. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter asked that sponsors be included
in the monthly CoSIDA mailings. There was discussion that most sponsors
receive the mailings as part of their CoSIDA membership. Carpenter said
he would check and see which sponors are not currently receiving the
Digest and will provide that list to the Secretary.
X. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said mailing labels had been
sent to the Academic All-America district coordinators. He said work
was continuing to get the on-line diectory to the point that the voting
can be done by email and said he hoped it would be available for the
Winter contests. He said directories were being shipped out at Multi-Ad
and asked for any additional submissions for the November Digest.
XI. At-Large Representative Judy Willson (Sun Belt Conference)
discussed Board and Host notebooks that she has begun work on. The
Board notebook will include administrative regulations, constitution
and by-laws, board responsibilities, required functions, etc. The Host
notebook will include calendars, a timeline and other information that
will assist in hosting the convention each year.
XII. Boclair said Wayne Block, Chairman of Committee on Committees, and
Howie Davis of the Basketball Hall of Fame, will be on the November
call.
