Sports Information Director Brian Rose has resigned from Bethany College to accept a similar position with Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University in Pittsburgh, Bethany Athletic Director Jan Forsty announced.
“This is a tremendous advancement and opportunity for Brian”, Forsty said. “At the same time, this is a tremendous loss for our developing department because his shoes will not easily be filled. What was a part-time position when Brian took over is now a professionally run office. We are grateful for the nearly 10 years of time and devotion he has given to the institution and we wish him the best of luck.”
Counting his days as a student, Rose has been at Bethany since 1994. After graduating from the College in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in physical education (sports communication track), he remained with the institution as the SID on a graduate assistant level.
In the summer of 2000, the position was elevated to full-time status and Rose became just the second full-time SID ever at Bethany. The first was Sue Ryan Lister, a 1989 Bethany graduate, who is currently an associate commissioner of the Big Ten Conference.
“The Carnegie Mellon University Athletic Department is very happy to be gaining the services of an experienced sports information director like Brian Rose,” said Carnegie Mellon Athletic Director Dr. John Harvey. “He knows the media outlets in this region, knows the athletic programs we are involved in and knows Carnegie Mellon from years of competition between the institutions. We welcome him and expect this association to be very productive for both Brian and Carnegie Mellon.”
Rose’s final day at Bethany will be Nov. 1, the same day as the Bison’s final home football game of the season. He will begin at Carnegie Mellon on Nov. 3. Rose and his wife, Rebecca, who works for the Gateway Clipper Fleet in Pittsburgh, will be relocating in the next two weeks.
