Virginia Commonwealth University has named Phil
Stanton its sports information director.
Stanton worked in the sports information office at the University of
Richmond for 12 years (1989-2001), including eight as director. For the
past two years, Stanton worked on CollegeBaseballInsider.com, a web site
devoted to Division I baseball. Since December, he also taught math at ITT
Technical Institute.
A native of Chillicothe, Ohio, Stanton earned a bachelor's
degree in statistics from Ohio State University in 1978 and received a
master’s degree in statistics one year later. Following graduation, he
taught in the math department and was sports information director at
Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. Stanton worked with the Richmond
Braves for three years from 1986-88.
Stanton has been a member of the College Sports Information Directors of
America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, National
Collegiate Basketball Writers Association and past president of the
Virginia Sports Information Directors.
