Goings Named SID at Bowie State

Bowie State University named Gregory C. Goings as its new sports information director effective September 12, 2003. Goings bring 12 years of sports information experience to the Bulldog family. "Mr. Goings is not only an asset to BSU Athletics, but a positive acquisition for the University. His experience and knowledge within the conference and with the NCAA, will make his transition back into the profession very smooth," stated BSU Athletic Director Derek Carter. Prior to joining the BSU staff, he was a sales associate with Chevy Chase Bank (2001 - 2003). His athletic experience began in 1988 at Virginia State University as their Sports Information Director, a position he held until October 2000. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) selected him as Sports Information Director of the Year in 1993 - 94 and again in 1995 - 96. In the summer of 1995, he was selected as a Press Officer for the United States Olympic Festival in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, he also served as official scorer for Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) World Series in Cleveland, Denver and Orlando. In addition to his athletic experience, he was the host of the No. 1 rated (Arbitron) night time radio program (The Quiet Storm) on WCDX - Power 93 FM (1988 - 93), served as an air personality for Virginia State University's public broadcasting radio station - WVST and for WPLZ Magic 99 FM (1984 - 86). Goings is a member of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) and the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA). Mr. Goings is a past president of the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association, former member of the Harlon Hill Division II Football Player-of-the-Year Advisory Committee and is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Goings, a native of Washington, D.C., and 1977 graduate of McKinley Tech High School holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia State University. Mr. Goings is married to the former Donna Powell and has one daughter, Shannen (12).
