Penn Adds Kanan to Staff
Mat Kanan, formerly the assistant sports information
director at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, was named as an
associate director of athletic communications at the University of
Pennsylvania on Nov. 17, 2003.
Kanan, a native of Fremont, Ohio, will be in charge of preparing media
guides, news releases, and other publications for Penn’s
intercollegiate athletics programs; assist in updating Penn’s website;
supervise game-day personnel management and game day experience for
assigned sports.
Kanan handled volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball
and baseball while at Capital University over the past year and a
half. He worked as the primary contact during Capital’s run to a
conference volleyball championship, creating all game programs as well
as working with local and regional media.
Kanan worked at the 2003 Ohio Athletic Conference Winter Sports
Championships held in Berea, Ohio. He coordinated media information as
well as web site content for the wrestling championships. Kanan also
handled play-by-play broadcast duties for football, basketball and
volleyball.
Before entering the athletic communications profession the 1997 Ohio
University graduate, bachelor's degree in journalism, worked in the
corporate arena in various marketing and communications positions in
Columbus, Ohio.
