Miami (Ohio) Honors Young

OXFORD, Ohio - This Saturday, May 3, the Miami baseball team and athletic department will take a moment before the doubleheader against Marshall to dedicate the pressbox at McKie Field at Hayden Park to Dave Young. Young served as Miami's sports information director from 1967-91 and was the official scorer at more than 1,800 Miami baseball games. Formal dedication ceremonies will take place at 12:30 p.m. prior to the Marshall/Miami doubleheader. Young will throw out the first pitch of the first game at 12:55 p.m. Following the first pitch will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Speaking at the dedication will be Miami athletic director Dr. Brad Bates, former player Bill Doran, head coach Tracy Smith and Young. A 1992 inductee into the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Hall of Fame, Young spent three years as an assistant SID at West Virginia and two years as the SID at Ohio Wesleyan before coming to Miami. He served as Miami's honorary baseball coach for the 1995 season and is a 1995 inductee in the Miami Athletic Hall of Fame. His true love for more than 30 years has been Miami baseball and on Saturday the pressbox will be officially dedicated to him as the "Dave Young Pressbox."
