Doug Dull Heads to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Doug Dull, Director of Sports Information at Kansas State University, will become the new Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations at Maryland beginning June 2, announced Athletics Director Deborah A. Yow. Dull is a 1981 graduate of Maryland, and is returning to his alma mater after more than 12 years of professional experience heading a media relations unit at the Division I and II levels. "Doug is an experienced and well-respected athletics professional who will ensure that our media relations office continues to meet the needs of our many constituents. I believe the fit is excellent for him and for Maryland Athletics," commented Athletics Director Dr. Deborah A. Yow. Dull replaces Dave Haglund, who has held the position since January of 1998 and will now take on new responsibilities with the department as the Associate Athletics Director for Varsity Sports. Dull has been with the Wildcats Athletics Department since June of 2000 as the Sports Information Director for the 16-sport Division I program. In addition to being the primary contact for Kansas State's football program, Dull was in charge of a full-time staff of five and also handled responsibilities for the Wildcats' top 10 track and field team. Dull and his K-State staff played host to the first and second rounds of this year's NCAA women's basketball tournament. "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the entire staff at Maryland," said Dull. "In addition to being an alumnus, I'm excited to be part of a university athletics department that has had such success recently. Being part of the administrative team at Maryland is a wonderful next step in my career." Before his tenure at Kansas State, Dull spent over eight years heading-up the University of California-Davis' office as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations. While at UC Davis, Dull oversaw the media relations efforts for all 25 Division II varsity sports, as well as special events like the Aggie's 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics celebration. UC Davis also played host to numerous Division II NCAA regionals and championships during his time there, including regional football, regional baseball, and national tennis. Dull began his professional career with a stint at the Herald-Mail in Hagerstown, Md., from 1982-89. A sportswriter, assistant editor, and editor before leaving the Herald-Mail, he eventually began his full-time career in sports information as the director at California State-Chico for two years before moving to UC Davis. A winner of numerous awards from the College Sports Information Director's Association (CoSIDA), he has also spent time on the national board of directors for the organization. A former chair of CoSIDA's national radio and Television Liaison Committee, he is a member of the Football Writers Association of America and the Track and Field Writers Association of America.
