Angolia Named Ass't Director at WKU
Bowling Green, Ky. — Joe Angolia, who served as graduate intern during the
2002-03 school year, was named assistant director of athletic media relations
at Western Kentucky University.
Angolia will assist in the promotion of all 20 Hilltopper sports and will
serve as the primary contact for volleyball, men’s and women’s swimming and
softball.
“There were plenty of qualified applicants for the position, but Joe’s work
in our office last year was an important factor in the decision to promote
him,” said Brian Fremund, WKU Director of Athletic Media Relations. “In nine
months on the Hill, he proved he could handle numerous tasks in an efficient
manner, and he wasted little time in establishing a solid working relationship
with members of the athletic administration and coaching staff. I’m glad we
were able to keep Joe in our office.”
After beginning his internship at Western in October, Angolia focused on
promoting the softball, golf and tennis programs. He also assisted in
game-day operations for football, and men’s and women’s basketball.
Angolia served as a summer intern in the Xavier Sports Information office
before joining the WKU staff. During his undergraduate work, he was on the
staff of The Xavier Newswire, serving as the sports editor for three years and
Editor-in-Chief as a senior. He also spent three seasons covering the
Cincinnati Bengals for The Football Network.
A native of Danville, Ky., Angolia graduated from Boyle County High School
in 1998. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Xavier
University in 2002.
