Cleveland State Picks McCann
Brian McCann, a 17-year veteran of collegiate athletic public
relations, has been named the director of athletic communications at
Cleveland State University.
McCann, a native of Lakewood, Ohio, and a 1986 graduate of Bowling Green
State University, most recently served as associate sports information
director at the University of Cincinnati for eight years (1995-2003).
While at Cincinnati, McCann was responsible for all media relations
activities for the sport of football while being heavily involved with
men's basketball. During his tenure at UC, McCann worked with football
teams that made four bowl appearances and men's basketball squads that
appeared in eight straight NCAA Tournaments.
McCann served as media director for the 1999 NCAA Women's Basketball
Tournament Mideast Regional and the 2002 NCAA Women's Basketball First and
Second Round games, which were played at the university.
McCann has received nine regional and national awards for his
publications.
This will be McCann's second term with the CSU Athletic Communications
Office. He served as assistant sports information director during 1986-87
before leaving to become associate sports information director at New
Mexico State University, a position he held for eight years.
A member of the College Sports Information Director's of America,
McCann serves as the national vice-chair of the group's Academic
All-America committee, a position he has held since 1995 as part of a
16-year affiliation with the committee. He helps oversee the selection process
that awards academic honors to over 800 student-athletes.
He recently received the committee's Lester Jordan Award for service to the
Academic All-America program.
