Lynn Hires Ross Blacker
Ross Blacker has been sports information director at Lynn University, Director of Athletics John McCarthy announced. Blacker replaces Jeff Schaly who has been promoted to the position of director of compliance and athletic facilities.
“Jeff Schaly has been integral to Lynn University athletics for the past seven years. He has been our sports information director, compliance officer, handled our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Athletic Hall of Fame and department work-study program,” McCarthy said.
With the combination of increased demands on athletic department personnel and Jeff’s knowledge of Lynn University, we are proud to name him as the director of compliance and athletic facilities, a newly created position. The promotion of Jeff to this position is a big step forward for Lynn University athletics.”
Blacker comes to Lynn University after serving as the director of public relations for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Prior to his stint with the Bears, Blacker was the sports information director at Nicholls State University for two years. At Nicholls State, Blacker was responsible for publicizing the university’s 16 NCAA Division I varsity sports.
“Ross is very well versed in the sports field and has in-depth experience in sports information at the collegiate level. He is a talented writer who understands the many complexities of the job,” said McCarthy.
“Ross has a big task ahead of him, and we are confident that his enthusiasm, experience and talent makes him a good fit for Lynn University.”
Blacker earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass media studies from Rutgers University in 1996. He completed a master's degree in sports organization from Miami University a year later. After completing his education, Blacker served as an assistant sports information director at Boston College and Monmouth University before moving to Nicholls State.
