Cole Moves to St. Michael's
Seth Cole, coordinator of media & public relations for
USA Hockey in Colorado Springs, Co., has been named Sports Information
Director at Saint Michael’s College. Cole will manage a complete sports
information and public relations program for the Purple Knights’ 21 NCAA
Division II varsity sports.
“We are thrilled to have Seth returning to our staff in this capacity”
said Geri Knortz, director of athletics, in announcing Cole’s hiring.
“His impressive professional experience gained with the ECAC and USA
Hockey – combined with those he had while here as a student-athlete
(baseball) and student assistant in the Sports Information Office – will
benefit our College and the student-athletes immensely.”
Cole succeeds
Angela Aja as the Knights’ SID, as she has accepted the position of
Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Relations at Saint Michael’s.
A native of Blue Hill, Maine (George Stevens High School graduate), and a
2001 graduate of Saint Michael’s, Cole serves on a three-person staff
responsible for managing all media relations responsibilities for USA
Hockey. He arrived at Colorado Springs after landing a very rare “double”
in the sports information/public relations industry. After graduating
from Saint Michael’s, he was awarded the coveted Asa S. Bushnell
Internship with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), a position
he served for the 2001-02 year. Then, he landed the prestigious Brian
Fishman Internship with USA Hockey – the only candidate selected from a
nationwide applicant pool.
His strong performance in that capacity earned
him a full-time position on the media relations staff.
As an undergraduate at Saint Michael’s, Cole gained a considerable amount
of practical experience in the field of sports media relations. He served
internships in the College’s sports information office, and with the
sports department of the Burlington Free Press. In addition, he also
served as sports editor of The Defender, Saint Michael’s College’s student
newspaper.
A journalism major at Saint Michael’s, he won a New England
Press Association scholarship in 2001. He was a four-year starter at
second base for the Purple Knight varsity baseball team, and won the
George ‘Doc’ Jacobs Award, given annually to the student who makes a truly
outstanding contribution to the athletic department at Saint Michael’s.
Cole will begin his duties at Saint Michael’s on September 8th.
