Day Promoted to Assoc. AD
Adams State College Sports Information Director Chris Day has been named associate athletic director of marketing and promotions, Athletic Director Jeff Geiser.
Day is entering his fifth year as ASC’s SID, a position he will retain.
“This was a move to help both Chris and the department,” said Geiser. “It also helps the department by having another member on the leadership team. I think Chris has a future in athletic administration if he ever wants to move in that direction."
Day, 26, came to ASC from Mesa State College, where he graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in mass communications with a double emphasis in public relations and news/editorial and a minor in mathematics.
An intern at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for two summers, Day also has sports information experience varying from the National Junior College World Series and the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament.
He has also worked several RMAC, Regional and national championship events. While at MSC, Day served as the sports editor at the student newspaper, The Criterion.
In 2002 Day was the inaugural recipient of the J.W. Campbell Award, given to the RMAC’s SID of the year. Day’s sports information duties include publicity, statistics, awards nominations and promotion for each of the Grizzlies’ 14 sports teams.
He also maintains the athletic department web site (http://athletics.adams.edu), assists with the corporate sponsorship program and plays a major role with the Athletic Hall of Fame operations.
A member of CoSIDA, Day serves on the organization’s committee on committees and serves as the West Region Coordinator of the Don Hansen’s Weekly Football Gazette All-America Program.
As Associate AD Day will assist Geiser with fundraising, community relations and will head the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, an important function that will help bolster the student-athlete community.
“This is one of the biggest things I am looking forward to as I feel our student-athletes have a great message they can share with residents of the San Luis Valley, especially the youth of our communities,” said Day. “I am very excited about my new role and look forward to the challenges and rewards it will bring.”
Day, who is now working on a master’s degree at ASC, will join the athletic department’s leadership team, which also includes Geiser, Senior Woman Administrator/Eligibility Coordinator Vivian Frausto, Associate Athletic Director/Men’s Basketball Coach Larry Mortensen, Compliance Coordinator Cindy Young and Administrative Assistant Lisa Knox.
