Dawkins Heads to SMU
Greg Dawkins has been named SMU's athletic media relations
assistant, replacing Aimee Carpenter who will be attending graduate school at
the University of North Carolina. While at SMU, Dawkins will serve as the
primary media contact for volleyball, equestrian as well as men's and women's
tennis.
Dawkins comes to SMU from Morehead State, where he most recently served as
graduate assistant for the sports information office. As a GA, Dawkins was the
primary media contact for men's and women's tennis and served on the game
operations staff for men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball.
As an undergraduate, also at MSU, Dawkins worked for the University newspaper
for three years, including two years as sports editor.
He received MSU’s
Outstanding Student in Journalism Award in 2002 and was a Communication
Department Scholarship recipient.
His experience also includes internships with the MSU Sports Information Office
and serving as a media relations assistant for the Fifth Third Bank Tennis
Championships in Lexington, Ky.
Dawkins was a four-time letterwinner with the Eagle tennis team. He represented
the University at the 2001 NCAA Leadership Conference and served as a member of
the Student Advisory Committee for three years. He was named Academic
All-District IV Second Team as a senior and earned an OVC Academic Medal of
Honor as a junior.
In addition, he earned a spot on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor
Roll as a junior and a sophomore, and to the MSU Dean’s List in five semesters.
A native of Strathpine, Queensland, Australia, Dawkins earned a bachelor's
degree in communication with an emphasis in journalism from MSU in December
2002.
