Jacksonville University has named Richard Retyi assistant director of athletic media relations, Assistant Athletic Director Jamie Zeitz announced. Retyi comes to JU from Georgetown University, where he served as a sports information intern in 2002-03. He replaces Russell Reneau, who accepted a similar position at his alma mater, Baylor University, after two years on the Dolphin staff. Retyi will be responsible for handling the day-to-day media relations operations for volleyball, women's basketball, men's and women's rowing, and the 2003 A-Sun Champion JU baseball team. Prior to joining the Hoya staff, Retyi worked as a physical education, English and health teacher at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Ill., from 2000-02, while also coaching basketball and tennis. A native of Welland, Ontario, Retyi graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in educatoin from McGill University, while working at various college newspapers. In 1997, He was presented with the Publication of the Year award for his work with The Red Herring magazine by the Student Society of McGill University.
