Is there any published information regarding HIPA and an SID's legal ability to release the name of an injured student-athlete and the nature of the injury? As we all know student-athletes are often injured and media members often inquire as to the nature of the injury. As SID's, are we able to discuss this. I am hearing different things from different people and want to make sure I am not putting myself in legal jeopardy. Our athletic trainers tell me we annot relase injuries, but I am also hearing that only applis to athletic trainers as they are considered medical staff and have patient confidentiality issues. If there is a blanket rule somewhere I think it would be helpful to send it to all SID's at all levels as we all face the same issue. Thanks for your time. Bob Ziadie King's (Pa.)
