North Dakota State University has hired Ryan Perreault as assistant director of athletic media relations. NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor made the announcement Oct. 12.
Perreault was a graduate assistant in the Bison sports information office for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons while completing his master’s degree in mass communication at North Dakota State. Since then, he worked as an interim assistant to Jeff Schwartz, who was named director of athletic media relations in September after 14 years as the NDSU women’s sports information director.
“Ryan has already been an invaluable asset to the media relations office at North Dakota State over the previous two years as a graduate assistant. His commitment to NDSU was displayed during the interim,” Schwartz said.
“Ryan is an outstanding young professional and has a promising future ahead of him. He is a great addition to the media relations staff and the department. What he may lack in experience, he makes up with his work ethic and willingness to learn.”
Perreault began his relationship with the NDSU athletic media relations staff as public address announcer for the Bison soccer team in 2001, and he has served in that capacity ever since. He has been the Bison volleyball announcer for two seasons and has also substituted in men’s and women’s basketball.
A native of Fargo, Perreault graduated from North Dakota State in May 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. He was a four-year starter at third base for the Bison baseball team from 1999-2002, making the All-Central Region and All-North Central Conference second teams with a .411 batting average in 39 games as a senior. Off the field, he served on the NDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council for two seasons.
Perreault is still active in the regional baseball scene. He has handled summer groundskeeping duties for the Fargo American Legion since 1999 at Jack Williams Stadium. He also has umpired Legion and high school baseball for six years, including two Class A state tournaments, and college games for two seasons in the North Central Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and the Dakota Athletic Conference.
