COSIDA BOARD MEETING
October 7, 2004

I. President Rod Commons (Washington State) conducted a roll call of board
members.
 
II. First Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) reviewed the Workshop
Program schedule for Philadelphia. He said he had conducted a call with the
other vice presidents and had talked with Larry Dougherty of the host committee
and discussed options of what was available for July 4th and options for the
rest of the workshop schedule.
III. Second Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) reviewed some of the Workshop
Social options. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) also discussed
the options and informed Dull of changes in some of the contacts for
sponsorship. 
IV. Carpenter had forwarded the ESPN contract to the full board and reviewed the
updates. He said language would be added to the contract to indicate that ESPN
would take care of the awards, award letters, etc. Commons said he had talked
with Academic All-America Committee Chair Dick Li
pe who had requested the addition,  and said they had also reviewed procedures
for the fall. 
V. The proposals for on-line balloting for the Academic All-America program were
discussed. There was a lengthy discussion and Dull made a motion that CoSIDA
accept the proposal from ICS to conduct the on-line balloting. Seconded by Pete
Moore (Syracuse). There was additional discussion about the data base, start-up
time, potential problems and financial considerations in regards to both
proposals. At-Large Representative Judy Willson (Sun Belt Conference) made a
motion to table the motion with the understanding that there be extended
discussions with ICS. Seconded by College Division Representative Chuck Sadowski
(New Haven). The motion failed to pass. The vote to accept ICS proposal passed. 
Commons said he would talk to the Academic All-America committee chair and vice
chairs. Carpenter said he would talk to SportsSystems and ICS. 
Hernandez said ICS needed about six weeks to have
 the program operational. The goal is to have the program working for the
selection of the Spring teams. 
VI. The program schedule was reviewed again and Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter
(Ithaca, N.Y.)  said CoSIDA’s contract with the hotel in Philadelphia required
at least one dinner at the hotel.  There was discussion of a possible keynote
panel, time for committee meetings and timing for other panels. 
VII. Third Vice President Charles Bloom (Southeastern Conference) reviewed the
2005 Awards Program. He said the nomination forms were on the CoSIDA site and
were published in the November Digest.
VIII. Wohlhueter said the only outstanding sponsorship from the 2004 Workshop
was CID. He said dues for 2004-05 were also pouring in. 
IX. Commons said the contract for the San Antonio Workshop had been signed.
X. There was discussion of the $15,000 owed to Millsport. Commons said he would
talk with Dick Lipe to see if there were other areas Millsport had failed to
complete, in addition to updating the Academic All-America data base.
XI. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the November Digest was at the
printer and Directories were shipping from Millsport to state distributors. He
said labels had also been sent to all Academic All-America district coordinators
to conduct the fall contests.
XII. There was discussion about any possible ways to move up the publishing date
for the Directory. Commons asked Hodges to develop a list of ideas and
considerations involved and report back to the board.
