Patrick Osterman has been named Assistant AD/Media Relations at Georgia Southern University, announced Athletics Director Sam Baker.
He replaces Tom McClellan, who accepted the media relations director position at East Carolina University in August. Osterman will serve as the primary publicist for the GSU football and baseball programs while overseeing all the day-to-day facets of the Eagles’ media relations operation.
“We were very fortunate to be able to attract a candidate with Pat’s credentials at this point in the academic year,” said Baker. “He brings a great deal of experience to the position. I look forward to working with him and having him join our administrative team.”
Osterman, 32, has served as assistant sports information director at Eastern Illinois University since 1997. While at Eastern Illinois, Osterman was the primary contact for baseball, women's basketball and volleyball in addition to assisting the other 19 varsity sports. Osterman also handled all game-day responsibilities in the EIU football press box.
In the fall of 1998 Osterman served as the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball tournament media coordinator and as the 1999 and 2000 OVC women's soccer tournament media coordinator. For two years he worked with USA Today On-Line covering Ohio Valley Conference basketball.
A 1995 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Osterman received his bachelor's degree in public relations and worked as a student assistant in the UNI sports information department. While at Northern Iowa, Osterman covered the 1995 Panther football team for USA Today.
He earned his master’s degree in athletic administration from Gonzaga University in 1998. While in Spokane, he was responsible for publicizing volleyball, women's basketball, men's and women's crew while assisting in baseball.
Osterman is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is married to the former Susan Schmitz. They have two sons, Andrew (2) and Ryan (7 mo.).
