SID Promoted at Longwood

Greg Prouty has been promoted to the position of assistant athletics director for media relations within the institution’s department of intercollegiate athletics, Longwood University Director of Athletics Rick Mazzuto has announced.  Prouty has been the SID at Longwood since 1997.

“Greg’s promotion is a result of a continuing pattern of quality work within the Athletics Department,” explained Mazzuto.  “The change is also a reflection of the increasing importance of media relations to the success of the Department’s mission and the widening range of responsibility for Mr. Prouty as the department’s media specialist.”

In his eighth year, Prouty coordinates all publicity and promotion of the University’s 14-sport athletics program, an independent member of the NCAA as Longwood competes during the second year of its four-year reclassification toward Division I certification in September 2007.  He previously was the assistant SID at Longwood from 1991-95 before serving two years (1995-97) as the SID at nearby Lynchburg College.

“I truly appreciate Rick Mazzuto’s confidence in my position that this promotion demonstrates,” said Prouty.  “I have thoroughly enjoyed my 11-plus years of association with Longwood and Lancer Athletics, and look forward to continuing my service to this institution, administration, and student-athletes.”

Prouty served as the media coordinator for both the 2003 and 2002 NCAA Division II Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championships in Virginia Beach, and has also served as the assistant media coordinator for five Division II Softball Championships in Salem.  Additionally, he served as the official scorer for the 1999 Division II Softball Championship.  Prouty is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).  He currently serves on the CoSIDA Charity Committee, and has received six citations of excellence from CoSIDA for publications, including two Best in the Nation awards.

Prouty is a December 1988 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, earning a bachelor's degree in public relations with an option in sports information.  He completed a one-year internship at ABC affiliate WTVQ-TV in Lexington, Ky while completing his undergraduate degree before serving a public relations internship with the Indianapolis Colts during the 1989 NFL season.

A native of Norwich, Ohio, Prouty and his wife Paula, a 1985 Longwood graduate, have a daughter, Megan Leigh (6).
