Former Bradley sports information director Jim Dynan, a member of the Bradley Hall of Fame, died Monday afternoon at his home. He was 77.
Dynan's 20 years as Bradley SID is the second-longest tenure of the nine men to hold the job. Only Joe Dalfonso (1976-98) held the title longer.
Dynan's first year as SID coincided with Bradley's second-place finish in the 1954 NCAA basketball tournament.
He worked in the same capacity the next two years at Tulsa, then returned to his former position at Bradley, his alma mater, where he remained until 1975. Dynan won four national awards for his publications and services.
"Jim worked hard, and like a lot of things at that time, the pay wasn't what it should've been," said former Bradley basketball coach Joe Stowell. "He certainly put a lot of time into Bradley. A person doesn't get enough credit for that job."
At the time of his death, Dynan was in his second stint as a part-time member of the Journal Star sports staff. He rejoined the staff in 1989, where his responsibilities included producing the daily "Remember When" feature.
