Former Publicist Jack Scott Dies
Jack Scott, the sports information director at the University of
Houston from 1949 to 1960, died Monday in Rockport, Texas, after a lengthy
illness. He was 75.
Scott, who was the publicity director for the original Houston
Oilers, was also an advertising executive in Houston for three decades
following nearly 10 years with the Oilers.
A native of Corpus Christi, Scott was a graduate of the University of
Houston. He and his wife, Sue, moved to Rockport after he retired. He
was a former member of COSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of
America) and The Football Writers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; three daughters, Sally Scott
Dillahunty, Julie Prunty and Stacy Cheeseman of Houston; two sons, Chad
and Blair Scott, both of Houston; and six grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. April 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Rockport.
