What do you do when a microphone fails to work in the middle of a press conference? How does your head coach or athletic director handle the tough question asked in the middle of a crisis press conference? What do you do if your star player breaks down and cries at the head table of an NCAA post-game press conference?
To find the answer to these heart wrenching questions and many more, don’t miss Eric McDowell’s current broadway hit, “Staging The Tough Press Conference,” a feature attraction at this summer’s CoSIDA Workshop in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The one-time presentation will be played out in three acts Wednesday afternoon, June 30, at 2:00 p.m., at the Telus convention Center.
The cast of characters for this life altering presentation includes an international cast of sports information personnel. Playing the role of the media in each press conference will be audience members.
Following each of the three Acts (?), audience participation will be encouraged in a Q&A session with the cast and audience experts.
The three Acts include mock press conferences on the hiring of a new coach, the dropping of a sport (crisis) and the always feared NCAA post-game press conference for the losing team.
Rest assured no one will be able to predict the twists and turns of this three-act play, maybe not even the producer. But also rest assured it will be both entertaining and informative.
