COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey today announced that Christy Jeffries (White Lake, Mich.) has been named the recipient of the sixth annual Brian Fishman Internship, given each year to an outstanding college graduate who is pursuing a career in athletic media relations.
Named in honor of the late Brian Fishman, who served as the Manager, Communications and Marketing for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) in 1998-99, the internship has received nationwide attention since being established by USA Hockey in 1999. Fishman passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 7, 1999 at age 28.
Jeffries, who will join USA Hockey in August and remain through June of 2005, graduated cum laude on May 16 from Boston University. Her responsibilities with USA Hockey will include serving as a liaison with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program as well as providing assistance with various media and public relations projects, event promotions, publishing initiatives, and American Hockey Magazine.
"Christy exemplifies the integrity, enthusiasm and passion for hockey that so distinguished Brian, and I am confident she will be a wonderful addition to USA Hockey," said Barry Fishman (Potomac, Md.), Brian’s father. "Brian’s mother, Ruth, and I are proud to welcome Christy to the tradition of excellence that the internship has come to represent."
A public relations major, Jeffries has worked in the Boston University sports information department since 2000.
