Konicki Joins Merchant Marines

Darryl Konicki has been appointed assistant sports information
director, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy announced.

Konicki comes to Kings Point following a one-year stint as an athletic
communications intern at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. While
there, he was actively involved in publicizing the Pioneers’ 32 Division I
varsity programs, and served as the primary media contact for eight
programs – including the men’s ice hockey team.

The Springfield, Mass., native served as an intern, and later as the
interim director of media relations, for the Springfield Falcons of the
American Hockey League during the 2002-03 campaign. After the team’s
director left to join the parent Phoenix Coyotes, Konicki was handed the
reigns of the Falcons’ public relations for the final two months of the
regular season, as well as the AHL playoffs.

Konicki is a 2003 graduate of Western New England College in Springfield,
Mass., where he received a bachelor’s degree in sport management. A
two-year student assistant in the Golden Bears’ athletic communications
office, he served as a sports editor for WNEC’s student newspaper, The
Westerner. Konicki also was the president of the college’s Sport
Management Association.
