Fisher Skates Over to Atlantic Hockey Association

The Atlantic Hockey Association announced the appointment of Dan Fisher as the new director of media relations. Fisher becomes the first full-time media relations staffer for the nine-member conference since its founding on June 30, 2003. His duties for the conference will begin immediately.

"I am very excited to add Dan to the Atlantic Hockey organization as the first full-time director of media relations for the conference," commented Commissioner Bob DeGregorio. "Dan brings with him a depth of experience and knowledge in regard to Division-I ice hockey. He has demonstrated his ability and experience at two other Division-I institutions."

Fisher joins the Atlantic Hockey staff having worked in a variety of settings concerning media coverage of college hockey. For the past two years Fisher served in the media relations office at UMass Lowell, spending a majority of his tenure as the primary media contact for the Division-I men’s ice hockey team.

Before joining the River Hawk athletic staff, Fisher was an arena reporter for USCHO.com, and still contributes on a regular basis to the site. He has also volunteered his time for numerous conference and NCAA tournament events, including as a staffer at the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four.

A member of ECAC-SIDA and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Fisher has served on the publications contest committee for CoSIDA for the past two years. His own publication work has been recognized at the national level, as the 2003-04 UMass Lowell men’s ice hockey media guide was voted among the top ice hockey media guides by his peers.

Originally from Manlius, N.Y., Fisher, 25, graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., with a bachelor's degree in accounting and management information systems in 2001. His first year in the sports information field came during the 2001-02 season at his alma mater, as he worked closely with a majority of the Golden Knights’ Division-III programs, along with supporting the Division-I men’s ice hockey program. He currently resides in Lowell, Mass.

The Atlantic Hockey Association arose when the nine former members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Hockey League (MAAC) joined together on June 30, 2003, to form a new Division-I men’s ice hockey conference. The league includes American International College, Bentley College, Canisius College, the University of Connecticut, the College of the Holy Cross, Mercyhurst College, Quinnipiac University, Sacred Heart University, and the United States Military Academy.
