Pam Hoover, a native of Oak Lawn, Ill., has been named assistant sports information director at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Sports Information Director Derek Smolik announced.
Hoover, a 2004 graduate of Illinois State University in Normal, will serve as the primary media contact for the women’s volleyball, women’s basketball and softball teams. She will also assist in the production of department media guides and with the maintenance of javelinaathletics.com, the official web site of TAMUK Athletics.
Hoover comes to Kingsville from Illinois State, where she was a student assistant in the Sports Information Office and a member of the ISU Gymnastics Team. She assisted Director of Athletic Media Relations Todd Kober in 2004 with spring football, research of statistical archives and with desktop publishing.
“Pam stood out from an excellent pool of candidates for many reasons,” Smolik said. “She has an outstanding background in collegiate athletics, both as an athlete and as a student. She also comes from a very strong sports information program at ISU, which has turned out several strong SID’s. I think that she will be able to come in here and make a significant impact on our office.”
As a member of the ISU Gymnastics team Hoover was a four-time State Farm Student-Athlete Excellence Award recipient and was also a four-time AFNI Honor Roll recipient. She was a member of the 2001 team that was ranked 25th in the nation for its performance athletically, and fourth in the nation for its performance in the classroom. She also helped the team to a pair of NCAA regional qualifying berths (2001, 2002).
“This is a fantastic opportunity to continue my learning experience in sports information,” Hoover said. “College athletics has been a good home for me and I hope that it will continue to be so at Texas A&M-Kingsville.”
A very active member of the ISU Community, she was on the ISU Student Athlete Advisory Council, was an Off-Campus Senator elect on the ISU Student Government Association, attended the ISU Leadershape Conference and was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
Hoover received a bachelor's degree in communications, with a minor in psychology from ISU in 2004.
