Rob Carolla has been named director of communications for the Big 12 Conference.
Carolla joins the Big 12 Conference after spending nearly eight years at the Big East Conference, where he was director of communications. A native of Parsippany, N.J., and a 1994 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Carolla will work closely with the Big 12 assistant commissioner for communications on the Bowl Championship Series, serve as the primary media contact for Big 12 Conference men’s basketball, coordinate media operations for the 2005 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds, assist in the oversight of the communications department, and handle other duties as assigned.
A past president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and member of that group’s Board of Directors, Carolla was a student-assistant in the UConn Athletic Communications office prior to being named aassistant director of communications for Conference USA.
While at the Big East, Carolla handled day-to-day football media relations, coordinated the conference’s web site, oversaw media coordination for 12 Olympic sports, and was active during the Conference’s two-year coordination of the BCS. He has also served as media coordinator for the 2001 NCAA Men’s First and Second Rounds, as well as assisting with the media operations at the men’s Final Four since 1997.
