Schwartz Takes Reins at North Dakota State

FARGO, ND -- North Dakota State University athletics has named Jeff
Schwartz the director of athletic media relations. NDSU Director of
Athletics Gene Taylor and Director of Women’s Athletics Lynn Dorn made
the announcement.

"I’m excited about the new opportunity afforded me at North Dakota State
University. I’ve been able to fulfill a number of professional and
personal goals during my career here at NDSU. I am excited for the
future of Bison athletics and the role media relations will play," said
Schwartz, who has been the women’s sports information director at the
university for 14 years.

“I am surrounded by a talented and hard-working staff in the media
relations office here at NDSU. I have the opportunity to work with the
best student-athletes, coaching staffs, administrators and support
staffs in the country on a daily basis. What a great situation to be in.”

While at NDSU, Schwartz has earned 42 CoSIDA (College Sports Information
Directors of America) publication awards, including 11 “Best in the
Nation” honors, and six CoSIDA national writing awards. Three of NDSU
women's basketball game programs have been judged “Best in the Nation”
including the 2003-04 edition of the publication.

Schwartz was the recipient of the inaugural American Volleyball Coaches
Association's Grant Burger Media Award in October 1997, and the 1997-98
North Central Conference Honor Award. He was the media coordinator for
four NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship
tournaments (including the first three Elite Eights) and one NCAA
Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship, along with numerous NCAA
regional and North Central Conference tournaments.

At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Schwartz worked as the interview room
supervisor at the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo, Utah, one of two men’s and
women’s ice hockey venues. He also volunteered at the 1995 NCAA Division
I Women's Basketball Final Four in Minneapolis and the 1994 NCAA
Division I Men's Volleyball National Championship tournament in Fort
Wayne, Ind.

A member of CoSIDA since 1981, Schwartz currently serves on the Academic
All-America committee as a district coordinator (2000-present). He also
has served on the organization’s Charity, Ethics, Writing Contest and
Publication Awards committees.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Schwartz is a 1981 graduate of Mount Vernon
Nazarene College. He and his wife, Cindy, have two children, Chris (17)
and Lainey (13). He worked at Mount Vernon Nazarene from 1981-88 as the
coordinator of information services/sports information, and as the
assistant sports editor for the Mount Vernon News in 1988-89 prior to
coming to NDSU.
