Shippensburg University Picks Eichelberger as SID

Jason Eichelberger, a native of Frederick, Md., is the new sports information director at Shippensburg University.

Eichelberger, who joins Shippensburg from his position as SID at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., fills the vacancy created last year by the retirement of John Alosi, the university’s sports information director for 32 years.

“After a nationwide search, we’re happy that Jason has joined the Ship family,” according to Dr. Peter M. Gigliotti, executive director for university communications and marketing. “He brings to the job not only a number of years of experience, but great enthusiasm, a passion for sports, and a variety of skills and talents that will benefit the university’s outstanding athletics program.”

Eichelberger served as SID at Thomas More from 2001 until this week. As that school’s first full-time director, Eichelberger was host SID for two games during the 2001 NCAA Division III Football Championship as well as for three games in the 2004 NCAA Division III Football Championship, including the Sweet 16. Prior to Thomas More, Eichelberger was sports information director at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., and at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

A 2001 graduate of Randolph-Macon, Eichelberger was assistant media relations director for three NCAA Division III national championships in football, men’s basketball and baseball and the NCAA Division II national championship in softball while at the conference office.

In addition to his experience as a sports information director, Eichelberger worked for the Frederick Keys, the Baltimore Orioles’ Class-A Carolina League affiliate, helped administer the 2002 and 2004 Conference USA men’s basketball championships and served as an intern with the Associated Press in Richmond, Va., covering the 1998 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer national championship and the 1999 Colonial Athletic Association men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

At Shippensburg, Eichelberger is responsible for media relations and publicity for the university’s 18 intercollegiate sports.
