Dayton Shuffles the Deck
The University of Dayton has announced two changes within it Athletics Communication Office, naming Bill Thomas as athletics communication assistant and promoting Mike DeGeorge to athletic publications coordinator.
Thomas, a 2001 graduate of Susquehanna University with a degree in public relations, earned his master's degree at Xavier University in sport administration while working for three years in the XU Sports Information Office. During his time with the Musketeers, Thomas served as the primary contact for volleyball and baseball and helped manage the Department’s official Web site. At Dayton, Thomas will serve as the primary contact for volleyball and softball.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, Thomas has served on its Academic All-America Committee. While at Xavier, he assisted in the planning and implementation of successful All-American campaigns for basketball players David West and Romain Sato. He was responsible for managing the Office's student staff and was awarded the Student Athlete Advisory Committee's "Behind The Scenes" award in 2003.
While attending Susquehanna, he worked for three years as a student in the Sports Information Office. He has also done radio broadcasting at WQSU-FM and WYGL-FM in Selinsgrove, Pa., and was a newspaper reporter for the New Jersey Herald in Newton, N.J.
"We are very pleased to be able to add someone of Bill's ability and experience to our staff," UD's Director of Media Relations Doug Hauschild said. "We expect him to not only be a strong contributor in our office, but our entire Athletics Division."
DeGeorge, who attended the University of Dayton as a sport management major and worked in the Athletics Communication Office as a student, was promoted to his new position earlier this summer. While at UD, the Buffalo, N.Y., native has acted as the primary contact for women's soccer and baseball. He has also handled play-by-play duties for UD soccer games on Time Warner Television for the past three seasons and serves as the public address announcer for football, women's soccer and baseball. DeGeorge was the athletics communication assistant prior to Thomas.
Continuing to serve as a sport contact, DeGeorge will now manage the publications for the UD's 16 varsity sports. His 2002 and 2003 women's soccer media guides earned national recognition in the CoSIDA publications contest.
Kevin Wilkinson, a 2000 graduate of St. Bonaventure University will remain as the assistant director of sports information and will now manage the University's official athletics Web site. Hauschild is a 1981 graduate of UD.
