Julie Dunn, a 2003 graduate of Syracuse University, was named Northwestern University's assistant director of athletic media services and publications coordinator today by Mike Wolf, assistant athletic director for media services.
Dunn, a native of Springfield, Ill., replaces Kimberly Gardner, who left Northwestern in November to take a similar position at the University of Massachusetts.
Dunn, who spent the fall of 2004 working as a project coordinator/public relations assistant for Teamworks Media in Chicago, served as the Big Ten Conference's Robert Hammel Intern in Communications from June of 2003 through June of 2004. She was the Conference's primary sports information contact for men's and women's soccer, track and field, swimming and diving and tennis. Dunn also was the secondary contact for women's basketball, a sport she will work with directly at Northwestern.
As publications coordinator, Dunn will oversee the production of Northwestern's 19 annual media guides, along with its football and men's and women's basketball game magazines.
At Syracuse, Dunn earned a bachelor's degree in magazine journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications while working in the school's athletic communications office. She also earned a minor in anthropology. Outside the classroom, Dunn was a member of Syracuse's softball team and earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2002. She was a team tri-captain her senior year.
Dunn begins her duties at Northwestern on January 19.
