The University of Northern Colorado Department of Athletics announced the promotion of Media Relations Coordinator Kyle Schwartz to the position of Director of Media Relations effective Nov. 1.Schwartz is in his fourth year at Northern Colorado. He served as the assistant director of media relations his first two years and was promoted to the position of Media Relations Coordinator in July 2004.
He is currently in charge of the publicity efforts for men’s basketball, baseball, women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s swimming and diving, cross country and golf. For the past two years he has also served as the conference SID for Division I Independent baseball, men’s basketball, women’s soccer and volleyball, helping coordinate Player of the Week and year-end All-Independent honors.
For the 2004-05 school year, he was tabbed as the No. 3 soccer SID in the nation by Soccer Buzz magazine and the 2003 Northern Colorado women’s volleyball guide he wrote, designed and edited won third place honors nationally in the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA) publications contest. He also currently serves on CoSIDA’s Academic All-American committee.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to take over as the Director of Media Relations,” said Schwartz. “I believe the five-plus years I have been in the business have prepared me to run a sports information office and I am ready for the challenge to help publicize Northern Colorado.”
Schwartz spent two years as the assistant sports information director at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., serving as the contact for soccer, women’s basketball, softball and tennis. There he completed his master’s degree in athletic administration, graduating with honors.
A native of Flemingsburg, Ky., Schwartz received his bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing from the University of Kentucky in May 2000.
