Former TCU SID Garner Recovering

Former TCU sports information director Jim Garner is back home again in Tucson, Ariz., and recovering after a lengthy hospital stay following the removal of a benign brain tumor.

The vascular tumor, which was putting pressure on the brain stem and nerves behind Garner's left ear, was discovered in late July and removed in August. Post-operative complications kept Garner in ICU in a Tucson hospital for 10 days and friends say he continues to have balance and vision problems.

Garner was at TCU in the mid-'70s and later was assistant athletic director at Texas Tech, athletic director at Appalachian State (where he hired Mack Brown), executive vice president of the Shreveport Pirates of the CFL, and athletic director at Oklahoma State before becoming regional vice president for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Tucson and, most recently, chairman and president of Sports World Ministries.
