After 24 years serving three different universities as its
sports information director, Steve Weller has finally gone full circle.
Weller, who currently serves as the director of athletics at Parker
College in Dallas, was called on to serve as head basketball coach for a
Feb. 22 game against the University of Dallas. And the team actually led
throughout the game, including holding a 38-34 lead at halftime, before
slipping 82-71.
The former president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association, Weller served as SID at Central Missouri State, Southern
Illinois University at Edwardsville and Texas-Arlington. He was also a
press officer for the 1984 and 1988 Olympic baseball team, as well for two
Olympic Festivals and a pair of world championship tournaments.
