In its meeting earlier this week, the NCAA Division I Management
Council approved Proposal 2003-32, which has as part of the legislation a limit
of 208 pages for printed media guides.
The council's proposal moves forward to the NCAA Board of Directors,
which meets on April 28. It is expected that the Board of Directors will
approve the proposal.
The initial proposal was for a 200-page limit on media guides and
was amended to 208 pages by the A/E/C Cabinet and resent to the council, where
it approved it this week.
An amendment for a 240-page limit on media guides failed.
The NCAA released a further application of the proposal that would
allow institutions to produce an on-line supplement that could be printed in
black and white and distributed to the media. Schools can also produce additional
media publications for separate purposes such as spring football and bowl
guides.
This proposal is effective for any brochure produced for any sport
beginning during the 2005-06 season.
