Associate Sports Information Director Don Helinski accepted the promotion to head SID at Central Michigan last week.
He replaces Fred Stabley Jr. who retures after serving as SID at CMU for 23 years.
Helinski, who started full-time in August 1999, has been the media contact for softball and men’s basketball during his tenure. He is a 1996 graduate of CMU.
“I am grateful to be given this chance,” Helinski said. “I am very excited to start my new role later this summer.”
Helinski has coordinated much of the work on CMU’s Athletics Web site, http://www.cmuchippewas.com, and football and basketball game programs.
“He was my first selection from the beginning,” Stabley said. “He’s been with us for nine years and he knows the business inside and out.”
Helinski will take over in July after the baseball and softball seasons end.
He looks forward to his new role and improving the department.
“I’ve been around the CMU athletic family for a long time and I have a great amount of Chippewa pride,” Helinski said.
