The Order of the University of Calgary goes to people who have provided exemplary service to the University beyond the requirements of one's position, or beyond the scope of one's department, furthering the aims of the University with integrity, and outstanding contribution of personal time and effort for the benefit of others, bringing honour to the University.
Mr. Jack Neumann’s name is synonymous with the Dinos Athletic Teams and the U of C and there is no greater supporter or advocate for student-athletes. He is respected by the Calgary media, his peers across Canada and was recently inducted into the College of Sport Information Directors of America (CoSida) Hall of Fame for his involvement in sport information in North America. His passion for the Dinos and their successes is obvious and he has worked with countless coaches, athletes and members of the media to ensure that the Dinos are covered in print and broadcast media outlets across Canada.
He was instrumental in bringing the CoSIDA Workshop to Canada in 2004 serving as the local chairperson. Neumann has been an active member of CoSIDA serving that organization in numerous capacities. He is a founding member of the Association of Canadian University Sports Information Directors and was their President in 1982-83.
Neumann become the first person from the Faculty of Kinesiology to receive this honour and first athletic department employee to recognized in this manner. He joined the University of Calgary Athletic Department as sports information director in July 1978 following a career in the petroleum industry as an accountant. He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor's degree in commerce (accounting) and bachelor's in economics.
Neumann will receive his honor as part of Convocation cermonies on June 7 at 2 p.m.
