Mississippi Valley State named the football field in Rice-Totten Stadium after a longtime director of sports information and athletics on Saturday.
Charles "Chuck" Prophet Field honors the career of man who worked as MVSU's SID and athletic director for three decades before his 2001 retirement.
"Chuck told the story and brought the eyes of the world on the Valley," President Lester C. Newman said.
Prophet was named Southwestern Athletic Conference sports information director of the year and black college SID of the year, after raising the profiles of athletes like Jerry Rice, Willie Totten and Ashley Ambrose.
"I was born right here and I was raised right here on this campus," Prophet said.
A sign marking the designation will be affixed in the stadium's south end zone.
