CoSIDA Business Meeting
March 17, 2005
I. President Rod Commons (Washington State) said a decision needed to be made regarding the Academic All-America Hall of Fame banquet. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said the meal prices presented by the Philadelphia Marriott were the highest CoSIDA has ever received for a Workshop. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) said it would cost $35 per person for an hors doeuvres reception. CoSIDA would also pay Dick Enberg's expenses if he could attend on Wednesday. Wohlhueter made a motion that the presentation be made on Wednesday instead of Saturday and that they go with the $35 hors doeuvres. Seconded by Charles Bloom. Passed unanimously. The reception would be from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
II. With the Academic All-America Hall of Fame reception on Wednesday, the board agreed that there should be a Past Officers Dinner on Saturday night, as in past years. Commons said he would write a letter to Past Presidents and Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said he would provide mailing labels. Wohlhueter said the RSVPs should come to him.
III. The board approved raising the Workshop registration fee to $100.
IV. It was asked that an explanation of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame reception be written and posted on the website and published in the Digest. Hodges said he would draft the information and forward to Commons for review.
V. Carpenter said a decision needed to be made on the logo for the Academic All-America program. The board gave Carpenter the authority to make a final decision based on suggestions and recommendations received from the board over the past weeks.
VI. Wohlhueter asked if letters had been sent to potential sponsors for coffee and pastry for the Philadelphia Workshop. Commons said he would contact Second Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland), who wasn't on the call, and see if the letters had gone out. VII. Wohlhueter said that Ball State had signed a con tract to host a CoSIDA Classic Basketball Tournament in 2005-06. It would be the third weekend of November.
The call was adjourned.
