Edward Hill, Jr., who has served as the sports information director at Howard University since 1984, has been selected to receive the Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
He will receive the award on Monday, July 4 at the organization’s annual workshop special awards luncheon, which this year will be held in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Bob Kenworthy Award is given annually to a CoSIDA member for civic involvement and accomplishment outside of the sports information office. Kenworthy, the first recipient of the award in 1993, served as the sports information director at Gettysburg College for more than 25 year ands actively participated in community and campus affairs.
Before coming to Howard, Hill was a staff writer for the Winston-Salem Chronicle and the Black Sports Review. He also worked as a news aid and freelance writer for the Washington Post.
He is also active in the Washington, D.C. community where he serves as head coach and co-founder of the DC Warriors basketball program (age group 7 to 14) and as a counselor of the National Youth Sports Program for more than 20 years. He has also served as a father figure to the youths in the District of Columbia Public School System through his efforts in the community.
Hill’s fundraising efforts have enabled the DC Warriors basketball team to travel and participate in tournaments throughout the eastern part of the United States.
The University of District of Columbia graduate also teaches a sport media class at Howard University.
