Joe Hornstein, media relations manager of the Orange Bowl Committee for the past three Orange Bowl Festivals, has recently been promoted to director of media relations.
Hornstein oversees the media and public relations campaigns for the OBC, as well as event media operations at the FedEx Orange Bowl and MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic. Additionally, the OBC media relations department operates a fully-functional website with e-commerce components at www.orangebowl.org, a 30-minute television show focusing on the widely-popular Orange Bowl Youth Football League that runs for 14 weeks in the fall, and over 75 publications edited in-house.
Hornstein was lured to the Orange Bowl Committee in October 2002 after serving five years as assistant sports information director at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. While at Miami, Hornstein worked closely with the football and baseball programs. In 2000-01, both the football and baseball programs won National Championships: football over Nebraska in the Rose Bowl and baseball against Stanford in the College Baseball World Series.
Prior to his stint at Miami, Hornstein served in the Sports Information Departments at Florida State University, where he was a graduate assistant (1995-98) and at the University of South Florida where he was a student assistant (1990-95). He earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from USF in 1995.
