Sampson Promoted to Top Post at Auburn

Kirk Sampson, an associate media relations director at Auburn
since 1998, has been named assistant athletic director for media
relations, Athletic Director Jay Jacobs announced Thursday.

Sampson will be responsible for overseeing the media relations efforts
of the Auburn Athletic Department.  He previously served as the contact
for baseball and assisted with the promotion of the football program for
the last six seasons at Auburn.  He also previously handled publicity
efforts as the women's basketball, soccer and track and field contact.

A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Sampson has won several awards for his
publications including Best in the Nation for the football game program,
Auburn Football Illustrated, in 1999, 2000, and 2001.

Sampson also oversaw the publicity efforts for three players to earn
All-America honors in baseball.  While working with the football team,
players won six All-America awards and captured numerous all-conference
honors.

Prior to his tenure at Auburn, Sampson served as the director of media
relations for the Philadelphia Rage of the American Basketball League in
1997-98.   He also was a graduate assistant for the Tennessee Women's
Media Relations Department, from 1994-96 where he handled publicity
efforts for women's golf, swimming and diving and assisted with
publicity of Lady Vol basketball.

A 1992 graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in sport
management, Sampson earned his master's in athletic administration from
the University of Tennessee in 1996.

Sampson is married to the former Lisa Ciampi.  The pair has two sons.
