Dave Walters Named SID of the Year

The Sports Information Directors of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference recently honored Guilford’s Dave Walters as the league’s 2004-05 SID of the Year.

The award is given annually to the ODAC sports information director who has made outstanding contributions to the profession at his or her institution and the conference. The award also takes into account such traits as leadership, integrity, ethics, desire, professionalism, timeliness, and accuracy when applied to completing sports information duties.

”Dave is a tireless worker and has helped me transition in to the role of an athletic director over the last three-years,” said Quaker Athletic Director Marion Kirby. “He has an unmatched attention to detail. He is very thorough in everything he does along with bringing a great deal of integrity to not only the sports information office, but the Guilford athletic department on a whole.”

Walters has held Guilford College’s sports information director’s post since June, 1996. He added the title of assistant athletic director the following spring and oversees the publicity efforts for the Quakers’ 16-sport NCAA Division III program.

The president of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Sports Information Directors’ Committee from 1998-2005, Walters is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the ECAC Sports Information Directors Association. He serves as the secretary of the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association and has coordinated five of the group’s college division all-state squads.

He has participated as a small-group discussion leader at two CoSIDA Workshops and serves as the official statistician for the Stagg Bowl, NCAA Division III’s National Championship football game.
