Abram Choate Tabbed New SID at Howard Payne

Abram Choate was recently named as the new sports information director for the Howard Payne University athletic program, succeeding David Nichols who left the college after one year to continue his education.

Choate moves to his new role from the admissions and recruiting office at HPU where he served as an admissions counselor for six years, working with new student recruitment and specializing in athletic recruitment.

"I am very excited about this opportunity to serve HPU," Choate said. "I have been wanting to make a move back to athletics for a while. It's great to have that chance here and I look forward to the exciting future of HPU athletics."

Choate is a 1998 graduate of Howard Payne with a bachelor of science degree in exercise and sport science. During his time as a student he was a member of the men's basketball team under coaches David Harrison and Charles Pattillo. One year he served as the student assistant coach under Pattillo. He was also involved as a student in the BSM, Student Foundation and choir. After graduation Choate spent one year as the head boys basketball coach at Harvest Christian Academy in Pasadena before coming back to HPU as an admissions counselor.

"It's great to have Abram coming to be a part of the athletic department," said Mike Jones, HPU athletic director. "He is a hard worker who has a great love for Howard Payne and HPU athletics. He will make a tremendous addition to our staff."

Abram is married to Torri, his wife of six years. They have a 2-year-old son, Asher, and a nine-month-old daughter, Ava.
