Schabert Named Ass't AD at Tennessee Tech

Rob Schabert has been promoted to assistant athletics director for sports information and broadcasting at Tennessee Tech.  He has served as Tech’s sports information director for nearly 23 years, since joining the TTU staff in 1982.

He is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), having attended the organization’s annual workshop 25 of his 28 years in the profession. He has served on several CoSIDA committees, including Ethics, Publicizing Olympic Sports, Academic All-America and Writing Awards. In 2004, he was voted winner of the university’s Outstanding Professional award. He has won dozens of national awards for his publications and writing, including “Best in the Nation” from USA Volleyball in six of the past 12 years.

Schabert, 49, has introduced many new programs within the athletic department. He established the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in 1989, initiated the President’s Award program in 1994, and created the Man of the Year and Woman of the Year awards, along with the Outstanding Male and Female Athlete Awards in 1993.

He is active in the Hall of Fame selection process at Tech and serves as emcee for the annual Hall of Fame Dinner. Schabert has prompted the selection of numerous Tech athletes as Academic all-Americans, and is extremely active in promoting both the academic and athletic accomplishments of TTU’s student-athletes.

A Minnesota native, he earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from St. Cloud State University in 1977, spent one year in public relations with the Minnesota Twins and was SID at Mankato State for five years. In 2002, Rob was a volunteer with the Salt Lake Olympic Committee as a member of the Press Operations staff.
