St. Louis Picks O'Connor for Athletic Media Relations Post

Chris O’Connor has been named athletics media relations associate at Saint Louis University.  O’Connor was the sports information director at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from 2001-04 before relocating to St. Louis during the summer of 2004. He assumes his duties immediately.

“Chris brings tremendous media relations experience and skill to our department,” Sports Information Director Doug McIlhagga said. “His knowledge of East Coast media should be extremely beneficial to us as we enter the Atlantic 10 Conference this year.”

O’Connor will serve as the primary media contact for field hockey, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and softball. He will also assist with production, design and editing of media guides and with the production of statistics, weekly press releases and event management.

O’Connor was responsible for the public relations for Marist’s 23 sports and managed two full-time assistants along with a student staff. He served as the media host for numerous Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships.

Before arriving at Marist in Aug. 2001, O’Connor was an assistant SID at Fairfield University for one year.  He handled media relations for women’s basketball, baseball, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s swimming.

His other experience includes serving as assistant director of athletic media relations at Long Island University during 1999-2000 and as assistant SID at Central Connecticut State during 1998-99.

O’Connor earned his bachelor of arts degree in communications arts from Marist in 1998.
